"Bares für Rares" at Kapfenburg castle
At the festival opening, Albert Maier will present a hidden treasure for a good cause.

Kapfenburg Castle is a home to music, education, art and culture. Our historic walls also harbour an odd treasure or two. Since the foundation was established, it has repeatedly been gifted with historic paintings. Some of these works have, until now, led a hidden existence in the castle’s attics or cellars, even though they are far too valuable to be left in a state of slumber, hidden away from the public eye.

This gave rise to the idea of bringing one of these paintings back into the spotlight – for a good cause. Albert Maier, one of Germany’s best-known art and antiques experts, has been enlisted to provide expert assessment. He will present the selected work during the festival opening, explain its art-historical significance and offer fascinating insightsto the world of antiques and hidden treasures. This will be followed by a silent auction, during which guests can submit their bids. By purchasing the antique painting, the buyer is making a sustainable investment in the castle, as the proceeds will go towards the refurbishment of the 52 guest rooms at Kapfenburg Castle as part of the ‘Rooms for the Future’ initiative.

Kapfenburg Castle in “Expedition in die Heimta”
SWR filmed an episode of “Expedition in die Heimat” with Annette Krause as the presenter. The result will be broadcast on SWR on 22 May.

The castles and palaces of the Swabian Alb are  brimming with fascinating stories. In the episode “Castles and Palaces of the Alb”, SWR presenter Annette Krause visits some of these impressive, historic buildings, where she meets lords of the manor, artists and other people who are preserving and revitalising these historic sites.

One of the stops is the former Teutonic Order castle of Kapfenburg. During the film crew’s visit, the D2 course of the Brass Band Association Ostalbkreis is taking place there. In glorious sunshine, the rehearsal and final concert are spontaneously moved to the picturesque castle courtyard.

Annette Krause also joins a children’s guided tour of the castle with Sonja Heinen and speaks with Academy Director Moritz von Woellwarth about the International Music School Academy.
