twenty-five | The sound experience
Anniversary join-in project

based on the
Prelude in C major, The Well-Tempered Clavier, BWV 846 by Johann Sebastian Bach

Kapfenburg castle has been part of the lives of the people of the region for centuries, since 25 years it’s been the home of the Foundation Kapfenburg castle - and the home of music, art and culture. Every event, every concert and every guided tour of the castle is an invitation to preserve as a lively meeting place. With success - more than 333,000 guests have visited the cultural events since 1999.

As a lasting symbol of the connection between the castle, the foundation and the people, the sound installation "fünfundzwanzig" (twenty-five) is being created to mark the anniversary. The musician Sebastian Bartmann will create it from hopefully numerous audio files of Johann Sebastian Bach's famous Prelude in C major - because everyone can take part, the more the merrier. It doesn't matter how well the piece can be played. Taking part is what counts!

How can I take part?
Play the Prelude in C major (or a few bars of it) on the piano or another instrument and record your performance. The piece can also be hummed.

Can I listen to the prelude somewhere beforehand?

How do I get the sheet music?
The sheet music can be downloaded free of charge here: Click

How can I record the audio file?
Most mobile phones have apps for voice memos, a recorder or a dictation machine installed as standard. If this is not the case, simply search for "free audio recorder" in the Play or App Store. The WhatsApp voice message function can also be used.

Can I also send a video?
Unfortunately, videos are not possible.

What format does the audio file need?
The format doesn't matter. If you have professional equipment, you are welcome to send us the file as WAV (24 bit, 48khz).

Where do I send the audio file?
By WhatsApp to +49 1523 76 08 988
or
By email to festival@schloss-kapfenburg.de

Until when can I send in the audio file?
The deadline is Friday 17 May 2024.

What happens then?
Sebastian Bartmann will listen to all the audio files sent in. He will then use the sounds to create a touching and dazzling sound installation.

Participation is completely anonymous. All personal data such as mobile number/chat or e-mail address/mail will be deleted after the audio file has been saved.

Where can I listen to the finished sound installation?
The world premiere will be at the opening of the 25th Festival Schloss Kapfenburg during the performance "da!SEIN | fünfundzwanzig". The Junge Philharmonie Ostwürttemberg and the piano duo imPuls, Sebastian & Barbara Bartmann, will perform under the direction of Uwe Renz. The performance will be followed by a big anniversary fireworks display. Anyone who would like to be there live can order tickets in our shop: Click

The sound installation will also be an integral part of the small museum at Kapfenburg Castle and will be available on our YouTube channel, among other places.
